Staying Healthy During Covid-19

We're all currently living in unprecedented times with Covid-19. Since the virus was characterized as a pandemic our lives have forever changed. To this day we are still living in a new normal of social distancing and stay at home orders. Heck, we are now becoming accustomed to wearing face masks anytime we leave our homes. The one thing that hasn't changed is our emphasis on staying healthy. Health has always played a role in combating illnesses and that is what I am here to talk about today. I wanted to provide some tips that have helped me stay healthy and energized throughout this global pandemic. 

The first and most important, in my opinion, is making sure you're getting sufficient vitamin C. Vitamin C is known for increasing the production of white blood cells, which are key to fighting any infection. I try to incorporate many fruits and vegetables that contain higher levels of vitamin C into my diet such as: oranges, papaya, broccoli and spinach. Some days I also take a vitamin C supplement. I prefer to use Garden of Life Vitamin Code Raw Vitamin C because it has all organic fruit and vegetable mix in the convenience of a pill. 

The second supplement that I have been taking is Elderberry. Elderberry is one of the most commonly used medicinal plants around the world. It is most commonly used to treat cold and flu symptoms. Elderberry extract has been found to reduce the length and severity of symptoms caused by the influenza virus. They are packed with vitamin C, dietary fiber and antioxidants. The brand that I have begun using is the Now Foods Elderberry Liquid. This stuff tastes like a jam. It is easy to take and you can even use it a jelly substitute if you're feeling creative. 

The third thing I do to keep healthy is perform moderate exercise. There are plenty of studies that indicate moderate exercise can boost your immune system by regenerating your immune cells and reducing inflammation. During Covid-19 I have been performing exercise away from the gym by jogging and biking. My wife and I recently purchased an indoor cycling bike. We read some reviews and decided to get the Peloton. It has not arrived yet but once it does I will transition to cycling indoors during the hot summer days. 

Above all I have been staying hydrated. Hydration doesn't necessarily protect you from viruses but it is very important for your overall health. The reason is it so important is because it prevents dehydration. Dehydration can make you more susceptible to illness and potentially other health concerns. To stay hydrated I use a 32oz Hydro Flask. I would recommend purchasing the Wide Mouth Straw Lid because it is so much more convenient to drink out of while working. It requires less effort to take a sip at random times throughout the day which leads to drinking more water!
